The Rescue Practitioner (Basic Medical Rescue) Programme

The Basic Medical Rescue course is an 8-week long programme.
Candidates successful in this programme will graduate as Rescue Practitioners.

Rescue Technician (Advanced Medical Rescue) Programme

The Advanced Rescue is 12-month programme consisting of 12 modules. The candidate must have completed the Basic Medical Rescue course to apply for the Advanced Medical Rescue - Rescue Technician course.

Leadership Laboratory Programme (LLP)

The LLP Faculty is in the process of revising the programme. The programme aims to enhance leadership and managerial skills, and guide career progression initiatives.

During this programme, candidates are placed in all EMS components during theory phase and are later deployed to specific districts to act as managers as part of the practical phase.

Continuous Education and Training (CET)

Emergency Medical Services employees are provided an opportunity to challenge the CET for the purpose of completion of high School subjects. Currently the priority is on Physical Science, Mathematics and Life Science’s subjects as part of the minimum entry requirements into emergency care programmes.

Emergency First Aid Responder (EFAR) Programme

The EFAR programme is a community outreach initiative, designed to equip community members with necessary first aid skills. The programme aims to train community members in rural areas, and high priority red zones especially where accessing emergency services is a challenge.

As part of career progression, the EFAR program, in partnership with the Western Cape College of Emergency Care, has introduced the EFAR Learnership Programme in 2017.

Basic Emergency First Aid Responder Course

The Basic Emergency First Aid Responder course is the entry-level training programme. The course trains students with basic first aid knowledge and skills, to manage an emergency. The duration of the course is 2 days targeting community members (18 years and older) in the targeted red zone and rural areas, explicitly neighbourhood watch and community workers

Train the Trainer Programme

The EFAR Train the Trainer programme, is a two-day workshop and induction programme, for new EMS staff who are interested in becoming EFAR facilitators. The workshop introduces new instructors to the fundamentals of education, the curriculum and training strategies for the EFAR courses.
